Scientifically speaking, the Finnish language has a clear-cut language-speaking area, the territory of Finland. It is a country that, despite being insulated ethnically and linguistically, has proven itself as an advanced European nation: suffice it to recall the worldwide brands like Nokia, Valio, and Kone. Finland’s present-day achievements in music and arts are well worthy of astonishment and admiration, considering its population of just 7 million. Just ask most of the Saint Petersburg residents. To them, Finland is just 210 kilometers away by bus – all it takes to immerse themselves in the world of true European quality. Due to purely geographical factors, translation from and into Finnish has been of special relevance to Saint Petersburg, which shows up when it comes to taking everyday trips or forming major business ties.

Perfectly aware of these factors, the LinguaContact translation company has gone ahead and devoted special attention to this complex and original language!

Some facts about Finnish:

—  Ethnically, the Finno-Ugric peoples (Finns, Estonians, and Hungarians) have little in common with most of the Europeans; once, long ago, they came from beyond the Ural Mountains, the area which is populated still to this day with a major portion of the peoples historically related to them (the Komis, Mordvins, Udmurts, Khanty, Mansi, etc.).

— Finnish has, in point of fact, a phonemic orthography, a system for writing a language in which the graphemes (written symbols) correspond to the phonemes (significant spoken sounds) of the language. The fact that Finnish has no voiced sibilants and contains a great many paired vowels makes Finnish speech sound melodic and pleasant to the ear.

— Finnish has 15 cases and extensively employs agglutination (a process in linguistic morphology derivation in which complex words are formed by stringing together morphemes without changing them in spelling or phonetics). Along with Hungarian, Finnish is known to be one of the most complex languages in the world.

— Despite the fact it is spoken by just a few million people, Finnish boasts a rich variety of dialects.
